Getting in and around

River North is a centrally located neighborhood, bounded to south and west by the Chicago River, and to the north by Chicago Avenue. It offers access to multiple CTA rapid transit lines, including the Brown Line and the Blue Line, as well as the 125 and 147 bus lines.

  • The largest concentration of art galleries in the US. The River North Gallery District lays claim to one of the largest concentrations of art galleries in the US. It’s home to Addington Gallery, a contemporary painting and sculpture exhibit space. Self-taught European and American artists are featured at the Carl Hammer Gallery, while Asian artists display their works at Andrew Bae Gallery.

  • Diverse dining options. From Mediterranean grub to steaks and pastas, River North is home to a mouthwatering array of restaurants and eateries inspired by global cuisine.   • The Merchandise Mart (TheMART) in River North is a historic 25-story building that spans two city blocks and is one of the go-to hubs in the neighborhood. There is no shortage of things to do whether it’s visiting one of the many restaurants or checking out an art exhibit or showroom, there is always more to see in the world’s largest commercial building.

Due to its downtown location, the majority of the housing stock in River North is made up of condos and apartments. There are a few single-family homes, but they’re rare, and they tend to be pricey. You’ll find plenty of luxury riverfront buildings as well as 19th century homes in more residential areas.
